New on Amazon Prime Video: The most controversial blockbuster of the last

by Mike

Amazon Prime Video’s subscription now includes a bona fide scary movie and a superhero blockbuster that has been as controversial as if it were a brutal horror shocker: “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark” and “Joker. “

“Joker” was one of the cinema phenomena of 2019, a must-see superhero movie that even people who would never in a million years watch the Marvel mega-hit “Avengers: Endgame” were interested in, and it grossed a total of $1.074 billion worldwide. Certainly not entirely innocent of this were the numerous controversies that accompanied “Joker” – from arguments about the quality of the film to reports of disturbed viewers to fears of copycats.

If you want to know why there was such an uproar at the time or simply want to watch the film again, you can find “Joker” now on subscription at Amazon Prime Video:

“JOKER”: CRAP OR MASTERPIECE?

By the way, the shocked audience thing quickly turned out to be a tempest in a teapot at the time: Although there was a lot of talk around the cinema release that there had allegedly been mass audience exodus at screenings of “Joker”, most of these reports were based on a few posts in social media in which people reported individual cases. And there were no copycats either.

The discussion about the quality of “Joker” was and is much more constant. At the 2020 Oscars, the film was nominated for a total of eleven (!) Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In the end, there were two Oscars: for Joaquin Phoenix as Best Actor in a Leading Role and for composer Hildur Guðnadóttir for her haunting score.

Many fans on the internet and in social media were also enthusiastic about “Joker”, which is reflected in the user ratings on various film sites, whether here at FILMSTARTS, at IMDb or on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews in the trade press, on the other hand, were much more mixed, showing that “Joker” is a film that divides its audience. The official FILMSTARTS review, for example, is not particularly good with 2 out of 5 stars.

ALSO NEW: “SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK “

If you’ve already seen “Joker” or would rather watch a real horror movie instead of a frighteningly controversial superhero film, you’ll also find what you’re looking for today on Amazon Prime Video – with “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark”.
