The most beautiful girl in the world: Comedy of mistaken identity based on the classic “Cyrano de Bergerac” about a schoolboy who falls in love with a pretty classmate but is ashamed of his nose.

Plot and background

Shy 17-year-old Cyril (Aaron Hilmer) is in love with his new classmate Roxy (Luna Wedler). But she doesn’t take any notice of him. Instead, Roxy has her eye on the pretty boy Rick, who is not exactly the biggest light in the class. Because Cyril is ashamed of his big nose, he helps Rick to sweet-talk Roxy with romantic WhatsApp poems.

The love story becomes even more complicated when Benno also takes notice of Roxy. Benno is desperate to add the new classmate to his trophy collection. Rick is already a better choice. Unnoticed by everyone else, Cyril digs his own grave: because Roxy really does fall in love with the sender of the romantic messages. Unfortunately, she thinks it’s Rick.

“The most beautiful girl in the world” – backstory

The tragicomic story of mistaken identity “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand is a true classic and has been filmed, set to music and adapted for the theatre several times in the past. The best known is probably the five-time Oscar-nominated French costume drama “Cyrano of Bergerac” starring Gérard Depardieu.

Director Aron Lehmann (“The Last Sow”) reinvents the literary classic as a modern teenage love drama. Instead of love letters, people now write WhatsApp messages and rap songs. Alongside the young stars Aaron Hilmer (“Loneliness and Sex and Pity”) and Luna Wedler (“Flitzer – Sometimes You Have to Be Brave!”), Anke Engelke (“Happy Burnout”) and Heike Makatsch (“Das Pubertier – Der Film”) are also in the cast.
