Fans of bloodthirsty entertainment can now watch a fun and entertaining undead spectacle with their Prime subscription that we had to wait a whole seven years for: “Wyrmwood: Apocalypse”.
Kiah Roache-Turner achieved what many filmmakers could only wish for with his 2014 directorial debut: With a budget of just $160,000, he put together a festival hit that was celebrated by genre fans around the globe. “Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead” won praise for its script as well as for the spectacle, behind which many suspected far greater production costs. The sequel, which was a full seven years in the making – and for which the makers had considerably more money at their disposal – was awaited with all the greater anticipation.
“Wyrmwood: Apocalypse” is now available to stream in the uncut FSK-18 version at no extra cost with your Amazon Prime Video subscription – and is especially worthwhile for friends of hearty B-horror battle records as well as for fans of both zombie sagas like “The Walking Dead” and dystopian-apocalyptic adventures à la “Mad Max”.
If you want to get in the mood for the undead spectacle with the prequel film first, you can also find it on Prime Video: “Wyrmwood” is currently included in the Silverline Channel, which you can subscribe to or try out for free. Alternatively, you can simply rent the film digitally – for only 99 cents at the moment:
In both cases, you should be prepared for genre fare that is obviously not on Hollywood level, but makes up for budgetary deficits with plenty of bloodthirsty creative ideas.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN “WYRMWOOD: APOCALYPSE “
Soldier Rhys (Luke McKenzie) scours the Australian wasteland for undead, which he hands over to the Surgeon General (Nicholas Boshier). He is working on the development of an antidote against the zombies. When he meets the hybrid Grace (Tasia Zalar), he believes he finally has the solution in his hands – until her sister Maxi (Shantae Barnes-Cowan) informs him about the true background of Rhys’ employer…
A buzzsaw, a biting attack and an arrow that bores through human flesh: Already the first two minutes of “Wyrmwood: Apocalypse” make it clear why the FSK has given this film an 18 rating. No prisoners are taken here in terms of gore and splatter, whereby for the most part it’s not the scares or the high tension but the fun factor that comes first. Provided, of course, that you enjoy bloodthirsty doomsday cinema that not only reminds you of classic zombie fare like “The Walking Dead”, but also exudes a fair amount of “Mad Max” spirit with its fucked-up, creative machines.

In addition, your Prime subscription now includes some other new content – such as the wonderfully upbeat, summer vibe “In The Heights” based on the hit musical of the same name by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”).
If you’re in the mood for emotional cinema, “All My Life – Love Like There’s No Tomorrow” might be something for you. Following the classic genre recipe, Jenn (Jessica Rothe) and Sol (Harry Shum Jr.) get to know each other and fall in love – until cancer puts their relationship to the test.
