New on Amazon Prime Video in April 2023: Remake of horror cult, “LOL”

by Dennis

In April, Amazon Prime Video has a whole range of interesting titles. Series fans can look forward to top-class exclusive productions, film buffs to current titles that are now new to the streaming subscription

The big flagship of Amazon Prime Video in April 2023 is of course “Citadel”. With a budget of up to $250 million for just six episodes, it’s reportedly the second most expensive series of all time (only “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” cost more) and comes from “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” creators Joe and Anthony Russo, and is said to give us agent action around the world.

“CITADEL”: THE SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE SERIES EVER

Superstar Priyanka Chopra Jonas and “Game Of Thrones” star Richard Madden star as former agents whose memories of their previous lives have been erased. But now they are needed again because a syndicate wants to take over the world.

The mega-series project is to be followed by numerous spin-offs set in other corners of the world, and a second season has already been confirmed. The first season will be available from 28 April 2023.

“DEAD RINGERS”: CRONENBERG CULT AS SERIES REMAKE

A second series production coming exclusively to Amazon Prime Video in April is “Dead Ringers” – a remake of David Cronenberg’s cult horror film of the same name (also known as “Die Unzertrennlichen” in Germany).

Rachel Weisz follows in Jeremy Irons’ footsteps and plays a pair of twins who share everything – from drugs to sex partners. Above all, they are both obsessed with research, willing to cross all boundaries and let no ethics slow them down in order to improve the health system. Available from 22 April 2023, the remake was directed by Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) as well as Karyn Kusama (“Jennifer’s Body”), among others.

“FALL”: BEWARE IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS

Not an exclusive title but via Amazon from 1 April 2023 for the first time in a streaming subscription in Germany, “Fall – Fear Reaches New Heights” is available just a few months after its home cinema premiere. The new film by Scott Mann (“Final Score”) about two women fighting for survival at dizzying heights recently advanced to become a real thriller secret tip. But beware: as the author of these lines can confirm from his own experience, seeing the film can really wear on the nerves of people with a fear of heights!

There are plenty of other titles that should interest you – from Hollywood fare like “Old”, “Snake Eyes” and “Birds Of Prey” to the horror secret tip “Hatching” and of course the fourth edition of the successful comedy show “LOL: Last One Laughing”!
