New on Amazon Prime Video: This cannibal movie is a winner despite being gnawed off.

With “Bones And All,” master director Luca Guadagnino (“Call Me By Your Name”) delivers a completely atypical cannibal movie. You haven’t seen the movie yet? Then you can now catch up with him in the subscription of Amazon Prime Video.

With “Call Me By Your Name” it became clear not only to a wider mass that Luca Guadagnino is an absolute exceptional director. The Italian also rose to become one of the most sought-after directors of the moment with his sun-drenched romance. This is not at all surprising, because his sensitivity to interpersonal sensitivities is extraordinary. That’s also true of his acclaimed cannibal road movie “Bones And All.”

You haven’t seen “Bones And All” starring Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell yet? No problem! You can catch up on the movie now with your Amazon Prime Video subscription.

THAT’S WHAT “BONES AND ALL “

IS ABOUT.

Maren Yearly (Taylor Russell) is different from her classmates. She belongs to the so-called Eaters – people who eat other people. Going through life with this peculiarity is anything but easy for a young woman. Especially since Maren believed for a long time that she was alone with her inclination. On her 18th birthday, she is abandoned by her father (Andre Holland), who simply can’t stand living with his daughter anymore.

So Maren goes in search of her mother and travels through the desolate backcountry of the United States. Here she surprisingly meets like-minded people and finally finds a soul mate in Lee (Timothée Chalamet). Together they travel through the country in an old truck, growing closer and closer. What they don’t know is that they’re being followed the whole time…

A UNIQUE OUTSIDER STORY

“Bones And All”, based on the novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis, is a prime example of how films can succeed in refusing any genre attribution, thus occupying a niche all their own. Luca Guadagnino uses the cannibal theme as a metaphor, and while he certainly includes horror elements, he ultimately sings an ode to outsiderism. “Bones And All” is a love story, a coming-of-age tale and a portrait of the down-and-out Ronald Reagan America of the 1980s.

Luca Guadagnino is responsible for the direction, while the screenplay is written by David Kajganich, who already wrote the originals for the Guadagnino films “A Bigger Splash” and “Suspiria”. Special mention must also be made of Arseni Khachaturan’s camerawork. The name will certainly be heard many times in the future. His images of the barren expanses of the USA are of shimmering grace and have made a great impression, especially on the big screen. The FILMSTARTS podcast Leinwandliebe on “Bones And All” also had a lot of praise for the camerawork, among other things:

The cast of “Bones And All” is also absolutely terrific. After “Call Me By Your Name” Guadagnino works a second time with Timothée Chalamet, who can unfold his very special charm again here as a dandy. The real sensation, however, is Taylor Russell, who won the Best Young Actress award in Venice for her performance. The cast also includes Mark Rylance (“Don’t Look Up”), Chloe Sevigny (“Brown Bunny”), Michael Stuhlbarg (“Men In Black 3”), Andre Holland (“High Flying Bird”) and David Gordon Green (director of “Halloween Ends”).
