Now for 99 cents on Amazon Prime Video: Probably the toughest

by Mike

The famous 99-cent action starts at Amazon Prime Video this time a little earlier, namely on Thursday instead of Friday – after all, it’s a holiday. You can look forward to brutal horror, magical fantasy and romance with Elyas M’Barek.

As always, there’s something for everyone in the latest 99-cent promotion from Amazon Prime Video, in which you can rent many movies for little money this time from May 18 to 21 inclusive as a Prime member. Of course, the fresh movies that were released in theaters only a few months ago and are usually not yet included in any of the usual streaming subscriptions are always particularly interesting – for 99 cents, you can now catch up on them if you missed them in theaters.

In the current offer, one film in particular stands out, which caused a sensation in 2022 and is absolutely not for the faint-hearted: “Terrifier 2” triggered one of the biggest horror hype in the recent past and is probably one of the hardest horror films of the year. On Prime, you can now watch it uncut (!) for 99 cents, which the provider explicitly points out with the “Uncut” reference. So nothing stands in the way of a proper slasher evening!

But: Is the hype real? You’ll have to make up your own mind, of course, but at least we came to the conclusion in our FILMSTARTS review that Damien Leone’s killer clown butchery orgy, which is said to have led to hall curses and vomit attacks in the cinema, is definitely better than its predecessor. Our conclusion: “Bloodier, more colorful and far more competently staged: Despite minor weaknesses, Damien Leone’s 138-minute slasher sequel tops its predecessor not only in terms of running length. “

“TERRIFIER 2”: BRUTAL & BLUTIG – BUT ALSO GOOD?

Despite that, it was only enough for 3 out of 5 stars in our rating – nastiest brutality doesn’t necessarily make for a good movie, of course, but in this case at least a solid one. And for genre fans, the headline-grabbing “Terrifier” sequel is definitely worth a look, as Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) may not (yet) be as iconic as his Stephen King brother Pennywise, but is definitely more sadistic and brutal.

While we can explicitly recommend “Terrifier 2” only for viewers with a strong stomach, there are of course plenty of films in the current 99-cent promotion at Amazon for which you don’t have to put a barf bag next to the sofa. You can find an overview of all the movies at the savings price here:

This time, for example, the fantasy spectacle “The Magic Flute – The Legacy of the Magic Flute”, in which teenager Tim Walker (Jack Wolfe) is drawn into the world of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, and the romantic comedy “Liebesdings” with Elyas M’Barek, whose gags could not really convince us in the FILMSTARTS review – it was only enough for 2 out of 5 stars.

For fluffy feel-good entertainment, which one can probably also urgently use after “Terrifier 2,” the 2022 cinema films “The Island of Lemon Blossoms,” about two sisters and their bakery on Mallorca, and “Mrs. Harris and a Dress by Dior” should also provide. We gave the film adaptation of the novel by Paul Gallico, in which Ada Harris (Lesley Manville) wants to fulfill her dream of a Dior dress in the 1950s, 3.5 out of 5 stars and concluded: “Perfectly tailored to viewers who like to indulge in nostalgic feelings at the cinema.
