The Marvels: Second MCU solo adventure of Captain Marvel. Here she meets the adult Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel.
Plot and background
Oscar winner Brie Larsen returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for her second solo outing. In “The Marvels,” she once again mimes the titular “Captain Marvel” aka Carol Danvers. While her first solo appearance grossed more than 1.128 billion U.S. dollars at the box office worldwide, it was only a matter of time before MCU boss Kevin Feige gave the green light to a “Captain Marvel 2”. But instead of standing up alone against the galactic villains, Carol is supported by two other heroines in “The Marvels”: Monica Rambeau (Teyonnah Parris), who received her powers in the series “WandaVision,” and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), who as “Ms. Marvel” emulates her great idol Carol Danvers.
We got a little taste of what to expect in “The Marvels” at the end of the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel”:
“The Marvels” – theatrical release in fall 2023
The seemingly endless fourth phase of the MCU is coming to a close thanks to “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” “The Marvels” will be the third film within the fifth phase and the 45th title overall in the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The theatrical release date for “The Marvels” is November 8, 2023.
Taking a seat in the director’s chair this time is Nia DaCosta, whose film “Candyman” opened in German cinemas in 2021. Thus, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will not return.
“The Marvels” – plot
As a strong as well as supportive character, Carol Danvers was part of the superhero*s union in the 2019 blockbuster movie “Avengers: Endgame” and impressively held her own against Thanos. However, her solo appearance previously took place in the mid-1990s, while “Avengers: Endgame” is mostly set in 2023.
However, the plot of “The Marvels” seamlessly picks up from the end of “Ms. Marvel,” when Kamala Khan switched places with Carol Danvers in New Jersey after her bracelet glowed. Could this be a reference to the Nega bands in Marvel Comics? Behind it is an ancient and powerful Kree artifact. Perhaps Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) could also come to the rescue, after all, the bracelet that gives Kamala Khan her powers seems to be connected to the Ten Rings.
