Ratings of films are, of course, always subjective to a certain extent – and thus also various best lists. Nevertheless, when films make it into such rankings, that means something. And when, for example, a film in the horror genre succeeds in relegating current megahits such as “ES”, “Conjuring” and “Saw” as well as popular classics such as “Braindead” and “Dance of the Devils” to the top of the list, genre fans are likely to prick up their ears. And rightly so, because “The Descent” is a must-see for horror fans.
“The Descent” is currently available on Amazon Prime Video – but only until 1 July 2023, so if you still have the intense creature feature on your watchlist, it’s worth crossing the film off sooner rather than later:

You can expect a nerve-racking trip into a confusing cave system, in which many a sinister danger lurks – and that (in contrast to some TV broadcasts of the film) completely uncut with FSK-18 clearance!
“THE DESCENT”: EFFECTIVE SHOCKER WITH A TWIST
At the centre are six young women who take a trip into a cave system. So far, so good. But what the group of adventurers (Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Saskia Mulder, Molly Kayll, Alex Reid, Nora-Jane Noone) don’t expect are the dangers that lurk in the underground vault.
As they descend into the depths, it quickly becomes clear how narrow and tangled the cave system really is. The inevitable happens: they lose their bearings – and soon they are searching in vain for an exit. And then the clues pile up that suggest they are not alone down here. Some creatures seem to be up to mischief – and they already have the women in their sights…
