“The Batman 2”: These villains wish Robert Pattinson &

by Han

“The Batman” is currently still running very successfully as a subscription on Amazon Prime Video, but “The Batman 2” has also already been announced. In the sequel, Batman could then fight against Mr. Freeze, the Calendar Man or the Council of Owls.

Strong reviews, plans for an entire trilogy and numerous hints in the film: After “The Batman”, the announcement of “The Batman 2” was actually only a formality – and in January 2023, the sequel was then officially announced. But what happens in the sequel? And which villains will Robert Pattinson have to deal with in his second appearance as Batman?

“The Batman” seems to indicate that Riddler (Paul Dano) and the Joker revealed at the end of the film (not playing Stanley Merkel as originally announced: Barry Keoghan) will be the villains, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. This is also proven by the statements of Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves, who namely bring quite different villains into play for “The Batman 2”:

COURT OF OWLS / COUNCIL OF OWLS

Robert Pattinson has said several times that he would like to see the Council of Owls in “The Batman 2,” a secret society that controls Gotham from underground and posed major challenges to Batman in a comic book storyline launched in 2011.

The story, which plays with horror elements and takes Bruce Wayne to his limits and the edge of insanity, would fit in well with the dark world established in “The Batman.” Also, there have already been revelations there that all is not as it seems in Bruce’s family’s past.

In the interview above, Pattinson, Dano, Zoe Kravitz, and Jeffrey Wright talk about various fan theories about “The Batman” and also address the advice of the owls. If Thomas and Martha Wayne were gone because they secretly lead the Owls, that would be very hard for Bruce, Pattinson says.

And then Paul Dano murmurs conspiratorially, “How good it is that the Council of Owls is not in this movie. Or maybe it is…?” So maybe there’s even an Easter Egg hidden in “The Batman” already, alluding to the Court Of Owls…

CALENDER MAN

To Den Of Geek, Pattinson also revealed that he would love to see Calendar Man as a villain who, as his name suggests, has an obsession with holidays and themed his crimes around them.

Julian Day, as his real name is, was last seen in a guest role in “The Suicide Squad” (played by Sean Gunn). Calendar Man is probably best known from the comic book series “The Long Halloween,” where he helps Batman along as a sort of Hannibal Lecter. Elements from “The Long Halloween” can also be found in “The Batman. “

MISTER FREEZE

Director Matt Reeves, on the other hand, has already gone on record saying that he would be interested in a Batman movie with Mr. Freeze as the villain, who is known to use all sorts of wacky ice weapons. Speaking to Collider, he said:

“For me, it would be an interesting challenge, how to make even a character like Mr. Freeze down to earth. That’s such a great story, isn’t it? I’m sure there’s a down-to-earth version of it and it could be very impressive and really great.”

Those who only know Mister Freeze in the goofy version played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Batman & Robin,” where Arnie guns around with an ice cannon and makes all sorts of corny jokes, might be surprised. But the character Mister Freeze actually has a deep tragedy: Victor Fries, as he is actually called, is looking for a cure for his terminally ill wife and in his desperation resorts to questionable methods.

HUSH

In addition, Matt Reeves also threw the name Hush into the ring in a Twitter FAQ, which thanks to a hint in “The Batman” many a fan already had on their mind anyway. After all, “The Batman” features journalist Edward Elliot, and thus a character who shares the same last name as Thomas Elliot aka Hush (and the word “Hush” also features prominently in the film).

Thomas Elliot is a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne in the comics, but he gradually develops a great hatred for Bruce and eventually tries to kill Bruce and Batman under the name Hush.
