You’ve never seen the King Of Queens like this before: FSK 18 rip-off with Kevin

by Mike

You always wanted to see “King Of Queens” cuddly bear Kevin James as a grim neo-Nazi in a FSK-18 version of “Kevin – Alone At Home”? Then you’ll find what you’re looking for now with a subscription to Amazon Prime Video!

Kevin James is one of those actors who seem to be subscribed to a certain role, in this case the good-natured, funny and not particularly smart cuddly bear or cozy-sympathetic buddy type – for example in the series “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “King Of Queens”, with which he became famous at the time, or in the films of Adam Sandler.

With titles like “The Heavyweight” and “The True Memoirs of an International Hitman,” Kevin James has broken out of the usual role mold a bit in recent years, but that’s nothing compared to his role in “Becky,” which you can now stream on Amazon Prime Video. In it, the “King Of Queens” plays a cold neo-Nazi gang boss who terrorizes a family in their vacation home with his henchmen until he gets caught up in an FSK-18 version of “Kevin – Home Alone” because of 13-year-old Becky.

FILMSTARTS editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen gave “Becky” a solid 2.5 out of 5 stars because the film is only solid as “black-humored splatter fun and even a disappointment as a home invasion thriller.” However, if you can get involved with the premise, which of course is not to be taken entirely seriously, and can block out Kevin James’ chubby sitcom image, you will have a lot of fun with “Becky” and can easily add another star – just like the author of this article.

However, a strong stomach is a must, because “Becky” truly deserves the age rating from 18 years. If you don’t have a problem with that, you can look forward to an eyeball amputation with a pair of blunt, purple-pink children’s scissors or the bloodiest lawnmower scene beyond “Braindead”.

In “Becky,” the eponymous 13-year-old (Lulu Wilson) is dragged along to the family vacation home by her father, Jeff (Joel McHale), after he announces that he plans to remarry some time after the death of Becky’s mother. Also along for the ride are Jeff’s new girlfriend Kayla (Amanda Brugel) and her son Ty (Isaiah Rockcliffe), which adds to Becky’s bad mood.

Becky’s family’s problems take a back seat, however, when escaped neo-Nazi Dominic (Kevin James) and his henchmen invade the lake house in search of a key hidden in the cottage’s basement. While Jeff, Kayla and Ty are captured and tortured, Becky begins to fight back against her family’s tormentors…
