It was recently revealed that Amazon Prime Video will be releasing a special edition of its hit comedy “LOL: Last One Laughing” for Christmas 2023. This will feature a reunion with old friends, but also something completely new.
We will have to wait until Easter 2024 for the fifth season of “LOL: Last One Laughing”. To bridge the wait a little, Amazon has something very special in store for all fans of the show’s success at the end of 2023: In December, we can look forward to an “LOL” Christmas special. Amazon and host Michael Bully Herbig announced this only recently. And just one week later, thanks to an official press release, we now also know who will be competing in the extra-long bonus episode in the non-laughing competition.
OLD FAMILIAR, NEW RULES
Whoever knows the first four “LOL” seasons will notice that the field of contestants consists of eight (and not ten as usual) people on the one hand, and that on the other hand they are all celebrities who have already competed at least once in the “LOL” arena (Kurt Krömer and Anke Engelke have even been there three times each as record holders). So the Christmas special will be something like a meeting of the “LOL” all-stars.
As we suspected in advance, the “XMAS Special” will also feature a somewhat slimmed-down and modified version of the familiar “LOL” concept. Instead of six hours of highlights spread over six episodes, this time there will be just three hours of horsing around in a single XXL episode (which is then expected to last one to one and a half hours).
This isn’t the biggest change, though, as we listed the field of contestants in pairs above for a reason. In the Christmas special, Anke Engelke and Co. will compete in teams of two and try to make the other duos laugh without laughing themselves. The team that is left at the end, however, also wins 50,000 euros for a good cause.
A first trailer will certainly soon reveal exactly what the team version of “LOL” looks like in practice. The final “XMAS Special” will then be available in December 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, an exact date has not yet been set.
