Leto kada sam naucila da letim: Croatian novel adaptation about twelve-year-old Sofija, whose supposedly stodgy holiday with two old ladies turns into an unforgettable adventure.
Plot and background
Adventurous Sofija (Klara Hrvanović) is forced to spend the holidays with her overprotective strict grandmother Marija (Olga Odanović) on an island in Croatia. It is not the summer she had dreamed of, but with the help of her loving great-aunt Luce (Snježana Sinovčić) and her cousin, Sofija overcomes her initial boredom. She makes new friends and explores all that summer has to offer on the island: bright sunshine, fun in the water, lots of ice cream and her first kiss. But the carefree days end abruptly when Luce has to be taken to hospital, leaving Sofija with a part of the family she didn’t even know existed. In coming to terms with the tragedy, the family eventually overcomes old traumas, and Sofija returns home with a new realisation: unravelling painful secrets is challenging, but also extremely liberating.
