With King Arthur: Legend of the Sword now available on Amazon Prime Video, Guy Ritchie has managed to give medieval cinema a fresh lease of life.
Without question, Guy Ritchie is one of the most exciting filmmakers in mainstream cinema today. Looking at his latest films, including the candy-coloured Disney blockbuster “Aladdin”, the smug gangster farce “The Gentlemen” and the rough-and-tumble action thriller “Cash Truck”, it becomes clear. Guy Ritchie now seems to attach great importance to trying his hand in ever different fields.
It is therefore only logical that Guy Ritchie has already made an excursion into the fantastic world of fantasy entertainment: “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”, which is now available on Amazon Prime Video, is both straightforward medieval bombast and unleashed madness, which in this form can only come from Guy Ritchie.
In the official FILMSTARTS review, we gave “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” a good 3.5 out of 5 stars. In the conclusion, author Antje Wessels writes: “Guy Ritchie manages to wring new facets out of the well-known original and stages his film with the stylistic devices so typical of him.” So if you want to experience how the historical setting is shaken up with split screens, fast cuts and GoPro chases, this is the place to be.
