The strikes in Hollywood forced numerous productions into a break. Sometimes something like this is also an opportunity. For example, after an intensive look at the footage shot so far, Marvel realized for the series “Daredevil: Born Again” that it was not going in the direction expected. So they decided to do a radical about-face. Those responsible up to now were fired. From the material shot so far, only a few episodes and more scenes will be kept.
But with it it was clear that it also needs new creative responsible persons for the adventures of the blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), who protects his New York quarter beside his activity in court as masked avenger. These have now been found.
“LOKI” DIRECTOR AND “THE PUNISHER” WRITER
As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel went back to old acquaintances in the process. Dario Scardapane will be the new showrunner in charge of “Daredevil: Born Again.” The author will also write new episodes and scenes in which he will incorporate material that has already been shot. Scardapane already worked on the Netflix-Marvel series “The Punisher”. For this, he wrote several episodes and also acted as executive producer. In addition, he was involved in Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” and the very short-lived thriller series “State Of Affairs,” among others. He also wrote the screenplay for the Liam Neeson actioner “Memory – His Last Mission. “
Meanwhile, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will direct the now-necessary new episodes. Acting as a duo, the directors are best known for their quirky indie sci-fi and horror films like “Something in the Dirt,” “Synchronic” and “The Endless.” But they also have previous Marvel experience. After their collaboration on “Moon Knight,” where they directed individual episodes, they were involved in a leading position in the second season of “Loki,” which is currently underway, and also directed two episodes themselves.
Whether “Daredevil: Born Again” will come to Disney+ in the course of 2024, as originally planned, certainly also depends on when the new people in charge can get started. Currently, the actors’ strike is still raging in Hollywood. Then it also depends on how much has to be reshot. How many episodes are to be created under the new management is unknown.
