New this week on Netflix: The best Marvel movie of 2023 only 5 months after

by Dennis

High-profile streaming news is rather scarce in the upcoming Netflix week. But with “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” we can still expect a real highlight of the cinema year 2023.

When Netflix includes licensed titles, i.e. everything apart from the in-house originals, in its portfolio, they usually already have some time under their belt. But the situation is now different for many titles from Sony! Thanks to a special deal, the streaming service is increasingly offering Sony titles relatively close to their theatrical release. That was already the case with “65” and “The Pope’s Exorcist”. And in the case of “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,” the service is even faster, just five months after the theatrical release.

But of course, the latest Spidey big-screen adventure is far from the only streaming fodder making its way to Netflix in the coming days. Which (potential) Netflix highlights await you in the week from October 30 to November 5, 2023, you can find out in the following overview, sorted by weekdays.

MONDAY: “SPIDER-MAN: A NEW UNIVERSE” TO PREPARE

No new releases have been announced by Netflix for Monday so far. So it’s the best opportunity to (re)watch the equally fantastic prequel “Spider-Man: A New Universe,” already available on Netflix, in preparation for “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,” due out Wednesday

TUESDAY: FANTASY DRAMA WITH 3 MARVEL STARS

Also Tuesday Netflix lets it go rather quiet. Concentrated Marvel power, however, there is already here. In the fantasy drama “Nine Days,” “Black Panther” hunk Winston Duke, with the help of “Doctor Strange” wizard Benedict Wong, judges unborn souls and decides which ones actually get to ride in humans – until a free-spirited newcomer (“Deadpool 2” heroine Zazie Beetz) causes quite a stir.

WEDNESDAY: MULTIVERSE SPECTACLE WITH SPIDER-MAN

After already wowing us with 2018’s Oscar-winning animated adventure “Spider-Man: A New Universe,” the sequel steps it up a notch in pretty much every way, letting Spidey Miles Morales dive even deeper into multiverse madness (including countless other Spider-Man variants).

With 4.5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review, the visually exuberant, wonderfully crazy and wonderfully told sequel is for us nothing less than the best Marvel film of the year (even just ahead of the equally highly rated MCU highlight “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3”). The only downer: The film ends rather abruptly with a cliffhanger, the resolution is only in the already announced third part “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse”, which is scheduled for release in late 2024 or early 2025.

“Across The Spider-Verse” then eclipses the rest of Netflix’s midsized new releases on Wednesday, which include licensed titles “Vertical Limit” and “Rumble – Winnie Rocks the Monster League.” There are also in-house productions such as the French action comedy “Thieves” by and starring “Inglourious Basterds” star Mélanie Laurent, the thriller drama “Locked In” with Famke Janssen and the docu-series “Secrets of Faith” and “The Jens Söring Case. “

THURSDAY: STAR-STUDDED MEETING OF THE SERIES GIANTS

Thursday, arguably the biggest Netflix original of the week awaits us with “All the Light We Cannot See.” For the star-studded bestseller adaptation with Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, Louis Hofmann and Lars Eidinger, two absolute series heavyweights have teamed up with “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight and “Stranger Things” director Shawn Levy. The lavish miniseries tells the moving stories of blind Frenchwoman Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) and young German soldier Werner (“Dark” star Louis Hofmann), whose paths cross during World War II.

But aside from that, the “Transformers” collection on Netflix, which already consists of the first five movies (and several series), is also getting a boost with the heartwarming spin-off “Bumblebee. “

Friday: ALL ABOUT SLY & AN OSCAR CANDIDATE

On the originals front, however, things certainly remain exciting on Friday. With “Sly,” Hollywood’s next action icon after Arnold Schwarzenegger is now getting his very own Netflix portrait, looking back at the career and eventful life of “Rocky” and “Rambo” star Sylvester Stallone.

In addition, one of this year’s Netflix Oscar hopefuls awaits us with “Nyad.” The biopic about marathon swimming legend Diana Nyad (Oscar-worthy: Annette Bening) combines an empathetic biography and a gripping sports film into a coherent and multi-layered whole.

SATURDAY: TIME FOR A NETFLIX MOVIE – IN THEATERS!

On Saturday, Netflix once again does without notable streaming supplies, but you still do not have to do without a new film from the house of the provider with the red N. For example, David Fincher’s outstanding thriller comeback “The Killer” is currently playing in selected cinemas, which will then also find its way to Netflix on November 10, 2023.

SUNDAY: OFF TO THE MOVIES AGAIN

And since Netflix is also cooking on the back burner on Sunday, all film enthusiasts can pay another visit to the cinema they trust right away. Because we can also warmly recommend the tragicomic reboot “One For The Road”, in which Frederick Lau struggles to swear off alcohol.
