“Project Rainfall” features a prominent cast including “Boba Fett” Temuera Morrison and “Harry Potter” villain Jason Isaacs. The sci-fi action sequel, which is also the start of a trilogy, is on TV tonight on RTL ZWEI.
In “Project Rainfall”, aliens have successfully invaded Earth. They have now ruled our planet for two years, but human resistance remains unbroken. When an Australian group led by freedom fighter Matt (Dan Ewing) learns of a mysterious secret weapon called Rainfall, there seems to be another chance to drive out the alien invaders. But to do so, Matt and his team have to team up with war veteran Peter (Temuera Morrison) and soon make a surprising discovery – and it’s not the fact that the mysterious weapon is guarded by bumbling Bud (“Hangover” scene-stealerKen Jeong) and his nice alien friend Steve (voiced byJason Isaacs).
The fact that the aliens in “Project Rainfall” have already ruled Earth for two years is due to the fact that it is a sequel. The actual invasion can already be seen in the predecessor “Occupation”, in which “Star Wars” star Temuera Morrison plays a leading role. “Occupation” is also available from VoD providers such as Amazon Prime Video:
But don’t worry:Knowledge of the predecessor is not a prerequisite for the sequel, which works independently. In Germany, the relationship between the two films is even largely concealed. In the original, the sequel is actually called “Occupation Rainfall” and thus still refers to the title of its predecessor.
AFTER “OCCUPATION” AND “PROJECT RAINFALL”: BIG PLANS FOR SCI-FI FRANCHISE WITH CULT STARS
Even directorLuke Sparkeapparently no longer really sees the first film as part of the franchise, for which he still has big plans. He announced that he is planning to shoot two (!) sequels together and is looking forward to being able to offer fans a “Rainfall” trilogy so soon. However, things haven’t really been going well recently. Sparke actually wanted to start filming at the beginning of 2022 (!), but then he preferred various other projects: In his native Australia, the action thriller “Bring Him to Me” has just been released in cinemas, which will be released in North America in early 2024. There is no German date yet
“Occupation Rainfall: Chapter 2” and “Occupation Rainfall: Chapter 3” will continue to form a real trilogy together with “Occupation Rainfall” aka “Project Rainfall” (of which there is just one more film).
For the two new films, director Sparke also wants to increase the cast prominence once again. Cult stars such as “Machete”Danny TrejoandCasper Van Dien(“Starship Troopers”) will be joining the cast, along with a number of returnees such as Jason Isaacs and Dan Ewing. Other familiar names Sparke announced for “Chapter 2” and “Chapter 3” includeTricia Helfer(“Battlestar Galactica”),Jeremy Piven(“Entourage”) andLiam McIntyre(“Spartacus”), with whom he has just worked on “Bring Him to Me”.
