One of the most important horror films of all time is getting a remake from a brilliant director: Robert Eggers is remaking Nosferatu. What does the classic look like 100 years later?
Director Robert Eggers has made a name for himself with visually stunning and cerebral films. He counts the ice-cold horror dramas The Witch and The Lighthouse among his works. Last year, he brought the mystical history epic The Northman to cinemas.
His next project fits perfectly into this series: Eggers is shooting a remake of F. W. Murnau’s vampire horror Nosferatu, joining Werner Herzog, who remade the film with Klaus Kinski in 1979. Now you can see the first image of the 1920s Nosferatu – albeit a century later
This is what the new Nosferatu with Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp looks like
In the picture we see Lily-Rose Depp (The Idol) as Nosferatu victim Ellen Hutter. On her face: the shadow of the vampire Count Nosferatu. After Max Schreck (1922) and Klaus Kinski, the legendary creature is now embodied by Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise in the Es films).

Eggers was thrilled with Skarsgård’s performance, he told Empire : “I would say that Bill has transformed so much that I’m afraid he doesn’t get the credit he deserves because he’s just not there…”. Bill Skarsgård also wants to “honor those who played Nosferatu before him” with his performance.

What is Nosferatu by Robert Eggers about?
It is not yet certain exactly how Eggers will interpret the plot of the silent film classic. The 1922 work is about Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult in the new version), who is sent on a business trip to Transylvania by his boss to negotiate the purchase of a house with Count Orlok. Hutter’s wife Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp in the new version) suspects evil. It is only during the night that Hutter meets the strange lord of the castle and he signs the contract. When he wakes up in the castle the next morning, he discovers small red marks on his neck and suspects the horror he is facing.
