This celebrated disaster film made cinema history and will soon be available for the first time restored for home cinema in 4K Ultra-HD on Blu-ray disc.
James Cameron’s masterpiece Titanic celebrated its 25th anniversary in Germany this year and was also shown again in cinemas to mark the occasion, remastered in 4K with 3D effect. To coincide with this, a new home cinema version will be released on December 15, for the first time in high-resolution Ultra HD, but without 3D.
You can order Titanic as a new 4K remastered version including two normal Blu-ray discs from Amazon. Also on board are over 15 hours of bonus material with two hours of completely new bonus material, such as “Titanic – 25 Years Later” with the director and new interviews with producer Jon Landau and lead actress Kate Winslet. In addition, re-enactments show who would have fit on the door floating in the sea during the rescue
Titanic: classic and record-breaker
The famous mix of disaster movie and love story is not only about the historic sinking of the world’s largest ship on its maiden voyage, but also about the dramatic liaison between the fictional characters Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio). Both achieved world fame with their roles here.
Even though the Titanic records have since been overtaken, the opulently staged blockbuster was the most expensive film to date (at a cost of around 200 million US dollars) and was also able to achieve the milestone of being the first film to gross over a billion dollars. Titanic also scored a rare 14 Oscar nominations with 11 awards

FILMSTARTS sat down in front of the big screen again in the course of the 4K 3D re-release of Titanic 25 years after its cinema release in Germany and gave the restored version 4.5 out of 5 stars. “When ‘Titanic’ was first released in cinemas in 1997, it was a real phenomenon. Seen from a distance, the hype is now just a quaint memory, but the magic of the movie is still alive,” the conclusion reads.
