When will Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order be released in cinemas?
At the moment there is no concrete release date for Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order. However, Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping two release dates free for Star Wars films in 2026. The Rey film could therefore be released in cinemas on either May 22, 2026 or December 18, 2026. Filming is scheduled to start in April 2024 at Pinewood Studios in London, where the previous films in the saga were shot. However, following the double strike in Hollywood, it is questionable whether the schedule can be adhered to.

When is Star Wars 10 set and what is the plot?
The plot of Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order takes place 15 years after the events of Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker and tells the story of Rey, who has established a new Jedi Order after the battle against Palpatine. After the sequel trilogy was wrapped up by the exit of the First Order, the Rey film acts as the first chapter of a completely new era. This is called the New Jedi Order.

Will Luke return as a Force Ghost in Star Wars 10?
Although Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) sacrificed himself in the final minutes of Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi, there is a possibility that the Jedi Master will make an appearance as a Force Ghost in the new Star Wars film. Last but not least, we have already seen him in this form in Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker.

I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time in flashbacks or Force ghosts, but certainly the ghost of what [Luke Skywalker] means to Rey will play a crucial role [in the new movie].

Which Star Wars characters are still returning?
Apart from Rey Skywalker, no other character has been confirmed for Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order, neither new nor familiar. Shortly after the announcement of the project, however, a rumor emerged that John Boyega could return alongside Daisy Ridley. The integration of Finn into the story makes perfect sense. Who is directing Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order?
The Rey film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who was involved in the MCU series Ms. Marvel. The Canadian filmmaker had previously made a name for herself as a journalist and realized various documentary projects. She won an Oscar for two of them: Saving Face (2012) and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness (2015). She is the first woman to direct a Star Wars film
Who is writing the screenplay for Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order?
In October 2022, Lucasfilm assembled a Writers’ Room to find ideas for new Star Wars films. Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson then wrote a first version of the script. After submitting it to Lucasfilm in February 2023, they left the project and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was hired as the new screenwriter.
According to a rumor (via The Hot Mic ), Lindelof and Britt-Gibson’s version would have introduced us to an older Rey, who would have taken care of the Jedi offspring, not played by Ridley. There were no concrete castings. Apparently, however, the creative team had someone like Helen Mirren in mind. There were also rumors that Rey would only have been a supporting character in this version of the story.
When will the trailer for Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order be released?
We’re still a long way from a trailer for the Rey movie. The project is currently in pre-production. Filming is scheduled to start in February 2024. If the film is actually released in cinemas in December 2026, we can expect a trailer at the latest at the Star Wars Celebration in April 2025.
