This rarely happens: Tele 5 is airing a sci-fi series that started way back in the last decade for the first time from next January. Is the alien scenario worth it?

January 2016: Germany is looking forward to the European Football Championship in France, the first tournament since the 2014 World Cup title. Film fans are eagerly awaiting the DC blockbusters Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. In four months, the 6th season of Game of Thrones will be released – and a sci-fi series called Colony will premiere on the small USA Network channel. It has a star-studded cast, with Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Ryan Condal (House of the Dragon) as showrunners. It will make it to Germany in 2017, but only on pay TV.

Another seven years later, Tele 5 wants to show Colony on free TV for the first time, reports DWDL . Find out here what the series is about, whether it’s worth watching and when you can watch it on TV

Epic sci-fi story: This is what Colony is all about

The story of Colony is set in a near future in which the world, and Los Angeles in particular, has changed. Gigantic walls surround the metropolis of millions. People can only guess what lies behind them. The reason: an alien invasion has taken place

Now the population is divided into those who cooperate with the aliens – and those who side with the resistance as rebels. In this conflict, Will Bowman (Josh Holloway from Lost) and his wife Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies from The Walking Dead) are separated from their son.

Is Colony even worth it?

Colony made it to three seasons with a total of 36 episodes – a considerable number. The series has found its audience. Moviepilot gave it a very solid overall rating of 6.8. “The characters are multi-layered and given the time to develop,” praised dwaddy, for example.”

At the start, we criticized the (naturally) sparse CGI: the series has nowhere near the budget to credibly depict an alien invasion. Colony cannot conceal this shortcoming. However, the focus is on human drama and character development anyway. If that’s your thing, you shouldn’t miss Colony.
