The science fiction epic Foundation is one of the biggest genre insider tips of recent years. The Moviepilot editorial team voted the visually stunning Apple TV+ production as the 29th best sci-fi series since 2000.
The space saga based on Isaac Asimov’s novel tells a centuries-spanning story about a group of outsiders who rebel against the powerful Galactic Empire. A 3rd season has long since been ordered, but now filming has been halted for the second time.

According to a report by Deadline, filming of the upcoming 3rd season cannot continue as planned. Cameras for the new episodes started rolling in Prague back in May 2023. A short time later, the actors’ strike in Hollywood led to a premature termination. Production has been at a standstill ever since

Production is scheduled to continue this February in Poland and the Czech Republic. Cast and crew members who had already arrived have now been informed to return home. The reason for the last-minute postponement is said to be production obstacles and a revision of the budget. Further details and a new shooting date are not known
Sci-fi fans will have to wait longer: When will Foundation season 3 start?
Due to the production delays, fans of the Foundation series will have to be prepared for a particularly long wait. We can use the work on season 2 as a reference. Filming took around a year, followed by a year of post-production.
In the worst-case scenario, season 3 might not be available on Apple TV+ until late 2025 or early 2026. Even if filming starts again soon, the new episodes cannot be launched this year. One reason for the extreme time gap between seasons is the long filming phase as well as the work on the elaborate visual effects
