After the Twilight saga, Kristen Stewart has largely withdrawn from blockbuster cinema. She has no interest in Marvel films either – unless this directorial great is behind the camera
While Robert Pattinson has mastered the balancing act between indie and blockbuster cinema since his breakthrough with the Twilight saga and has also donned a superhero costume for The Batman after films such as Good Time or High Life, his former Twilight colleague Kristen Stewart has made herself at home away from the mainstream. Among other things, she is in the starting blocks with the revenge thriller Love Lies Bleeding.
However, a trip to the blockbuster epicenter par excellence – the superhero genre – is not entirely on the cards for Kristen Stewart. At least not anymore, as the actress told Yahoo! Movies in 2015 that she could definitely see herself as part of the Captain America series. However, those days seem to be largely over. Because in the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat Stewart now proclaimed that she would “probably never be in a Marvel movie”. In doing so, she revealed an exceptional condition:
Only for Barbie director Greta Gerwig would Kristen Stewart shoot a Marvel film
So Kristen Stewart doesn’t have a particularly rosy idea of shooting a Marvel movie, because she often loses the personal touch in the MCU:
It sounds like a f***ing nightmare, to be honest. What comes out of it is this algorithmic, weird experience that has nothing to do with the personal. So I probably wouldn’t do it. But maybe the world is changing …
However, the Twilight star added that she could change a certain director’s mind on the matter:
If Greta Gerwig asked me, I’d do it.
Indie luminary Greta Gerwig made her breakthrough in mainstream cinema last year with the mega-success Barbie and is soon to remake the Chronicles of Narnia series for Netflix. It is therefore not impossible that Gerwig’s path could lead her to the MCU in the future. Will Kristen Stewart get a call from her after this statement?
Love Lies Bleeding with Kristen Stewart in cinemas in summer 2024
Before Kristen Stewart possibly swings into the superheroine costume for Greta Gerwig, the actress is in the starting blocks with her new film Love Lies Bleeding, which will reach German cinemas on June 13, 2024. The crime thriller with surreal elements celebrated its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was also shown at the Berlinale in the Special Gala section, where we already had the chance to see the film.
