In two years, a new Lord of the Rings film will be released in cinemas. The story revolves around the nasty Gollum. An important piece of information has already been revealed for fans of the fantasy universe
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is a new Lord of the Rings film in the works that will take us back to Middle-earth. The fantasy adventure is set to conquer the big screen in two years’ time. No wonder that important decisions are already being made for the production of the mega blockbuster.
Last week, Deadline published an extensive background report in which Peter Jackson, among others, spoke about the genesis of The Hunt for Gollum. Jackson, who has directed all previous Middle-earth movies, will not be returning as director. Instead, he will accompany the project as a producer.

Tucked away in the big Deadline report is a piece of info that should make Middle-earth fans very happy: The Hunt for Gollum will be filmed in New Zealand. The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films already drew heavily on the diverse and simply breathtaking landscapes that New Zealand has to offer.

Thus, The Hunt takes a different path from Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series in front of Gollum. Although season 1 of The Rings of Power was also filmed in New Zealand, production moved to the UK for season 2, which caused skepticism among many fans. Frodo actor Elijah Wood was also perplexed

We won’t find out how much the change in production location will affect season 2 of The Rings of Power until August 29, 2024, when the new episodes premiere on Amazon Prime Video. With The Hunt for Gollum, on the other hand, we don’t have to worry about losing the Middle-earth feeling

In addition to Jackson, the new film brings back some big names from the previous installments, most notably Gollum actor Andy Serkis. Not only does he take on the leading role. Serkis, who most recently directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage and acted as second unit director on The Hobbit films, is directing The Hunt for Gollum.
The screenplay for The Hunt for Gollum was penned by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who wrote the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films with Jackson. They are joined by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. The duo are also behind the animated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
