The trailer for Venom: The Last Dance features an actor we already know as a Spider-Man villain. What does this mean for the 3rd installment of the series?
This week saw the release of the first trailer for the film Venom: The Last Dance by director Kelly Marcel, which completes the Spider-Man villain trilogy. Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock – so far so good – but the presence of another MCU actor is causing the ultimate Marvel confusion.
To be more precise: what is actor Rhys Ifans doing in the Venom 3 preview?
Is another Spider-Man villain returning in Venom: The Last Dance?
Rhys Ifans stars as Otto Hohenturm in the GoT prequel House of the Dragon and is also well known from the Marvel screen. Since The Amazing Spider-Man, he has been involved as Dr. Curt Conners, who transforms into the villainous Lizard in the course of the plot. Naturally, he wants to get his hands on the friendly neighborhood spider – at least until the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter (Tom Holland) cures him of his cold-blooded villainy. (However, the Lizard only appeared in the film as a CGI character without the involvement of Ifans.)
Is that why we see the lizard man completely converted, with two arms and hippie-like in the trailer for Venom 3? Or is Ifans playing a completely new character? Fans are confused. Two theories are circulating on X, among others: In one, Ifans’ scene is part of a flashback; in the other, it shows Connors after he’s left the Lizard behind.
Are they making the Venom trilogy take place in the past of The Amazing Spiderman (or rather a branch timeline of it?)

What if Eddie Brock is looking for other people who were sent “back home” after Spider-Man No Way Home and that’s why we see Rhys Ifans in Venom: The Last Dance

We will find out more on October 24, 2024 at the latest, when Venom: The Last Dance dances into local cinemas. Then we’ll also find out whether Spider-Man might even make a cameo appearance in the film
What is Venom: The Last Dance actually about?
Old acquaintances from Venom’s homeland have tracked him down on Earth. The countdown to the invasion of our planet has begun, but perhaps the sympathetic symbiote and his human vessel can still avert the subjugation of mankind. However, the earthly military is now also hunting down the thuggish duo.
And don’t worry: Peggy Lu is also back as the show-stealing Mrs. Chen, as the Venom 3 preview already predicts.
