Great praise for the Netflix thriller set in the waters of the Seine. Bestselling author Stephen King has commented on it. Read what he wrote here.
When horror master Stephen King isn’t writing a new novel, he apparently binges his way through the Netflix top 10. So he didn’t miss the opportunity to share his opinion on the current number 1, In the Water of the Seine, with the world
This is what In the Water of the Seine on Netflix is all about
Bérénice Bejo plays scientist and diver Sophia, who lives in Paris after a shark attack. When the Seine is invaded by a mutated shark, she has to confront her trauma. Together with water police officer Adil (Nassim Lyes), she warns the authorities about the danger in the river. But the mayor does not want to tarnish the city’s image ahead of the Summer Olympics.
The film is directed by Frenchman Xavier Gens, who rose to fame in 2007 with the shocker Frontier(s) and then rather unhappily launched a career in Hollywood (with Hitman, among others). Stephen King nevertheless lowered his expectations quite a bit before the first viewing …
Stephen King initially expected a Sharknado spin-off
The bestselling author behind It and The Shining had this to say about the Netflix film on X (formerly Twitter):
I thought In the Waters of the Seine would be a fun movie like Sharknado, but Twitter convinced me to watch it, and it’s really quite good. The last 25 minutes were insane
I thought UNDER PARIS would be a jokey movie, like SHARKNADO, but Twitter convinced me to give it a watch, and it’s really quite good. The last 25 minutes were amazing.

In the past, King has repeatedly praised films and series on Twitter. For example, he recommended The Autopsy of Jane Doe, The Coffee Table and Spiders – Their Bite is Death to his followers. Whether independent films or non-English-language films, King uses his platform to pay great attention to smaller works.
Im Wasser der Seine is no small work. With a budget of 20 million euros, a star director and the biggest streaming service behind it, the shark thriller can hardly be described as an underdog. What’s more, the film is currently number 1 in Netflix’s top 10 films worldwide. But the thriller certainly deserves the praise
