Last year, Markus Goller returned to theaters with a new tragicomedy after the great 25 km/h. Now you can stream the movie on Netflix.
Good mainstream comedies from Germany? Is there such a thing? Markus Goller has proven to be a promising candidate when it comes to bringing tragic stories with a humorous touch to the big screen. His best film to date: the extremely entertaining road movie 25 km/h with Bjarne Mädel and Lars Eidinger.
Last year, he followed this up with another tragicomedy. One for the Road tells the story of a young man who can’t get his alcohol addiction under control. Goller is aware of the seriousness of the subject matter. But that doesn’t mean that his movie can’t be entertaining – especially with these stars.
The touching tragicomedy One for the Road is particularly impressive with Frederick Lau and Nora Tschirner
Frederick Lau and Nora Tschirner play the leading roles in One for the Road. They are the biggest argument in favor of the film. Lau embodies the construction manager Mark, who can’t get away from alcohol. Tschirner finds herself in the role of Helena, who is one step ahead and trying to get her addiction under control.

With 6.5 out of 10 points, this balancing act between a light-hearted feel-good film and a first drama is well received by the Moviepilot community, which is above average for a German comedy. We recommended One for the Road for its theatrical release due to the great chemistry between Lau and Tschirner.
Our sister site FILMSTARTS even goes one step further in its review and describes the film as the German answer to Billy Wilder’s The Lost Weekend (OT: The Lost Weekend). The classic film from 1947 tells the story of an alcoholic writer. It gets a proud 4 out of 5 stars for this
