Three months after its theatrical release, the latest Planet of the Apes movie arrives on Disney+, where the rest of the legendary sci-fi series is also available on streaming subscription.
The apes have been conquering Earth on the big screen for over five decades. The first film adaptation of the sci-fi classic Planet of the Apes was released in 1968. Since then, the series has changed several times. After the sequels from the 1970s, there was a controversial remake shortly after the turn of the millennium.
2011 saw the next reboot in cinemas: Planet of the Apes: Prevolution, which was followed up with two more parts. The latest chapter in the sci-fi saga follows on from this trilogy: Planet of the Apes: New Kingdom. Three months after its theatrical release, you can now watch the film for the first time on Disney+ with a streaming subscription.

Planet of the Apes: New Kingdom is set around 300 years after its predecessor and shows us a world completely dominated by apes. However, we are not dealing with a peaceful place: The warlike Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) twists the teachings of his namesake to strengthen his own position of power.
Here you can watch the trailer for Planet of the Apes 4:
Noa (Owen Teague) experiences this first-hand when his village is attacked and destroyed by Proximus’ followers. The young chimpanzee then sets off in search of his friends, who were abducted during the raid. Contrary to all expectations, he meets a human: Mae (Freya Allan).

Based on this premise, New Kingdom takes the motifs of the previous trilogy a step further and focuses on the question of trust between Noa and Mae. Both have experienced traumatic events that cause mistrust. At the same time, they are dependent on each other in their fight for survival.
This conflict creates a strong tension that runs like a common thread through the film, which also comes across as a great action adventure and impresses with grandiose effects. The film was directed by Wes Ball, who knows his way around sci-fi blockbuster cinema thanks to the Maze Runner films.
