Coming to Disney+ in 2 weeks: controversial new horror movie in which a mother turns into a dog, available to stream immediately

It has long been released in the US. Now Nightbitch is coming to Germany too, but not to the cinema. The horror movie starring Amy Adams is launching directly on Disney+ in this country.

In the 2010s, Amy Adams was a fixture in the cinema. However, especially in Germany, we have not seen her on the big screen for a very long time. However, this is not because she has not made any new films. Rather, they have gone straight into streaming with us, and her latest film is no different.

In the US, the eagerly awaited film adaptation of the novel Nightbitch has already been released a month ago – in theaters. In this country, the film will be released directly on Disney+ with a subscription. On January 24, 2025, you can enjoy the new film with Amy Adams in the comfort of your own home from your couch.

Amy Adams transforms into a dog: Nightbitch sounds like a crazy horror comedy

Nightbitch is based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder, which was published in 2021. The story revolves around a woman who works successfully as an artist and curator. However, one day she decides to take a break from her career so that she can take better care of her son and the household.

Watch the trailer for Nightbitch here:

Her husband is constantly away on business and has no time for his family. Therefore, the protagonist of the story sees herself forced to make a change. And the change comes suddenly on a very grand scale: the character played by Amy Adams gradually transforms into a dog.

A little horror, a little fantasy and a good dose of humor – no wonder that the wild mix of genres was controversially discussed given this premise. At Metacritic, the film averages 56 out of 100 points. Rotten Tomatoes counts 59 percent positive reviews – including some extreme ratings.

The tone of the film and the creative decisions made in the course of the adaptation are particularly controversial. Nightbitch was directed and written by Marielle Heller, who most recently brought the very touching The Wonderful Mr. Rogers to the big screen. Now she delivers the female answer to Kafka’s The Metamorphosis.
