One of the best sci-fi series of our time is heading into its second season finale: “A big, bad thing” is waiting for the survivors

On Friday, the second season of Silo, one of the best science fiction series currently, ends. But what can fans expect in the finale? A clip and statements from the showrunner hint at it.

Silo is one of the best science fiction series of recent years and even made it into the editorial team’s list of the best series of 2023 with season 1. Season 2 is currently airing and seasons 3 and 4 have already been ordered by the streaming service Apple TV+.

The basic idea of Silo is quite simple: in the future, the earth’s surface is toxic and people live in a 144-floor-deep silo underground. Strict rules apply here and the world outside is a great mystery. In the course of the first and ongoing second season, some secrets are uncovered that turn the survivors’ world view upside down.

If you haven’t seen the series yet, you can read the series review of Silo, in which Moviepilot editor Max Wieseler shares his enthusiasm for the adaptation of a novel by Hugh Howey. All Silo fans can now get in the mood for the upcoming season finale with a sneak peek video and statements from the showrunner.

Possible spoilers for the second season of Silo will now follow.

The second season of the science fiction series comes to an end on Friday

Season 2 again consists of ten episodes, which will be released on Apple TV+ on Fridays. Nine have already been aired. Here you can watch a clip from the season finale, which focuses on Tim Robbins’ character Bernard, head of IT and a representative of the status quo in the silo.

Watch the sneak peek from the season 2 finale here:

One of the big secrets of season 2 is hinted at in the penultimate episode. Lukas (Avi Nash) finds a tunnel under the silo. However, if he tells anyone about it, a so-called “safeguard” will be initiated, according to a computer voice. A protective measure or fuse that sounds quite dangerous. But what is it? In an interview with Collider, showrunner Graham Yost whets our appetite:

Episode 9 ends with: ‘Do you know what the Safeguard is, Mr. Kyle?’ ‘Yes, I do.’ Well, we don’t know what it is, but we’ll get an idea in the next episode, and it’s not good. It’s not a good thing. It’s a big, bad thing.
