Action star Gerard Butler takes us into space today in a sci-fi movie to avert a natural disaster. After that, he goes on a revenge mission in an FSK-18 thriller that packs a punch.
The marathon starts on TV with the sci-fi disaster movie Geostorm, which is not exactly one of the highlights of Gerard Butler’s career. However, if logic is only a minor issue for you, you’ll still be entertained. This is followed by the relentless thriller Law Abiding Citizen. With 7.7 out of 10 points, it is Butler’s best-rated film in our community.
Geostrom im TV: Mit Satelliten gegen den Klimawandel
Extreme weather conditions trigger natural disasters that humans have contained in the near future because the weather is controlled worldwide with a network of satellites. But when the system malfunctions, huge storms threaten to wipe out humanity. Satellite designer Jake Lawson (Butler) is ordered to travel into space and fix the malfunction. A race against time begins.
When we are in the sci-fi and disaster genre, the demands for realism should not be too high. Harvard astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell called the geo-current storyline garbage. The visual effects are not convincing either.
Nevertheless, Butler still gives his best here and is able to entertain those who can let go of logic for a few hours. The actor also gave his all during the tough shooting and ended up in the hospital twice because he hadn’t learned from his mistakes.
Gerard Butler in the exciting revenge thriller Law Abiding Citizen
Clyde Shelton (Butler) has to watch as his family is brutally murdered during a break-in. The culprit is quickly arrested, but District Attorney Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) makes a deal with the guilty man to get at his accomplices. Shelton is still deeply in mourning when he decides to take the law into his own hands and to take revenge not only on the murderer of his family, but on the entire criminal system.
Law Abiding Citizen is undoubtedly one of Butler’s best thrillers. Whether it’s credible that an ordinary father becomes the mastermind of an absolutely brutal revenge plan is an open question, but Butler plays him absolutely convincingly in any case. And so you’re happy to follow him deeper and deeper into the abyss. But Foxx also wins the audience’s sympathy, until you no longer know who you’re supposed to be rooting for here.
