On TV today: a thrilling action thriller starring Clint Eastwood, which was remade 29 years later with Bruce Willis

Movies by and starring Clint Eastwood are always worth watching. Especially when it’s a historic work like the one on TV today.

A rather unknown Clint Eastwood movie is being shown on TV today: Every Which Way But Loose. The action thriller has left a lasting impression on the movie landscape. Almost 30 years later, a remake was made with Bruce Willis in the lead role.

The Out-Law, tells a thrilling action story about a cop and a witness

Police officer Ben Shockley (Clint Eastwood) is supposed to transfer a witness from Las Vegas prison to Phoenix. This witness soon turns out to be Augustina Mally (Sondra Locke), who has no interest in being taken anywhere. She is in fact being hunted for her life, which is evident from the fact that the intended vehicle for the trip explodes right in front of them.

It gradually turns out that the rest of the police are also after the witness and will do anything to prevent her from reaching her destination. If Ben Shockley should also meet his maker in the process, this is tacitly accepted. So the two of them have to fight their way through almost endless resistance and flee in a hail of bullets for what feels like half the time.

Almost 30 years later, there was a remake with Bruce Willis, which is even better

The Man Who Never Gave Up, which premiered in 1977, serves up dry, hard and often illogical action fare, but it’s still highly entertaining – if you don’t mind the harsh dialogue, some of which has really aged badly from today’s perspective. It’s a good thing there’s a remake.

The probably better movie overall is 16 Blocks with Bruce Willis and Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def). The 2006 flick makes the witness the man and relocates the spectacle to New York City. The result is an extremely entertaining action movie that, in its best moments, works as an ideal Die Hard substitute.
