Today, you can watch a top-notch scary movie on TV that marks the beginning of one of the most successful horror movie franchises. The series finally continues next year.
A family moves into a house where mysterious things happen – the plot seems familiar, but Insidious still manages to stand out from the crowd of demon horrors. In 2010, the first part laid the foundation for a series that is convincing in terms of content and atmosphere. Today, Insidious is on TV.
Insidious on TV: Dark forces of horror destroy a family
Shortly after the Lambert family moves into their dream home, eerie events begin to occur. Their son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) in particular suffers from the dark power, which even puts him into a coma. His parents Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) also sense that something is wrong in the house. But even moving again cannot free them from evil. Desperate, they seek help from an unconventional specialist.
Although Insidious starts out like many other representatives of its genre, it goes much further in its plot and is able to present its audience with an original storyline. What makes it most memorable is the atmospherically dense horror, including shocking moments that stay with you even after the movie is over. So get out the pillow to hide under, you’ll need it.
Successful Insidious series continues and more horror highlights in 2025
Well, if the success of Insidious wasn’t the devil himself at work, after all, the first film grossed 66.6 times its production costs. And the following five parts were all a huge success, too, with the series grossing a total of over 740 million US dollars at the box office. The high profit is also due to the comparatively low costs, which range from 1.5 to 16 million per film. This proves that good horror doesn’t have to be an expensive action spectacle, but rather shines the most in the reduced moments.
Fans of the series will have to be patient for a little while longer, as the release date for Insidious 6 has been pushed back to August 2026. But 2025 also offers plenty of promising shockers, including the new Conjuring installment. If you can’t wait, there’s a very special horror movie in theaters right now that delivers subtle chills à la Babadook.
