Reacher author destroys dream of Willa Fitzgerald’s return – only one hope remains

by Tommy

Many Reacher fans hope for a return of Willa Fitzgerald’s character Roscoe from season 1. Author Lee Child reveals a rule for his books that precludes a reunion.

Reacher season 3 is over, and season 4 will probably start filming soon. But many fans still have their hearts set on season 1: more specifically, on Willa Fitzgerald’s character Roscoe Conklin, with whom they hope to see her again in the future. However, an interview with Reacher author Lee Child puts a damper on such hopes.

Willa Fitzgerald’s character is out: Reacher author has a rule for romantic supporting characters

Reacher readers will recognize the pattern from Child’s novels: each book features a new female character for whom Reacher has romantic feelings. None of them are repeated. Child told Forbes in February 2025:

There’s a different woman in each book, and I fall hopelessly in love with each one of them, and I’m bitterly disappointed when I have to leave them at the end. But that’s just the way it works. All three seasons [of the series] had their respective romantic character, and that’s Duffy [Sonya Cassidy] in season 3. I was very sad after the book that I would never see her again.

It sounds like Child hasn’t even considered bringing back a romantic supporting character. This is bad news for anyone waiting for a Roscoe return. However, this only applies as long as the series sticks to the original – and that’s the glimmer of hope for all Fitzgerald fans.

There is only one glimmer of hope for Roscoe’s Reacher return

After all, the Reacher series has already deviated from Child’s original in some moments. Not least when it comes to recurring characters: Roscoe’s superior Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin), for example, returned for a few scenes in season 2. The producers could do the same for his young colleague.

Would Willa Fitzgerald be willing to return? In an interview in July 2022, the Reacher actress said she enjoyed the “complete and finished story” of Season 1 very much. That doesn’t necessarily sound like she’s eagerly awaiting a second appearance. But she doesn’t rule it out either.

Reacher fans can therefore hold out a small hope for future Roscoe scenes. If the tough policewoman returns, it is more likely to be in a small guest appearance – and not in part 2 of a passionate love story.
