Since Thursday you can watch an underrated comedy with Elyas M’Barek and Palina Rojinski on Amazon Prime. The film scored top results at a time when that wasn’t a given.
During the spread of the Corona pandemic, Nightlife appeared in German cinemas. The comedy starring Elyas M’Barek ran for less than a month before movie theaters closed across Germany in mid-March 2020. Now Amazon Prime is bringing Nightlife to the flat rate: since Thursday, you can stream the film at no extra charge *.
New on Amazon Prime: What is Nightlife about?
Nightlife is a party comedy in the best tradition of Hangover and Game Night: normal protagonist:s like you and me are chased through one bizarre situation after another on a wild night. Director Simon Verhoeven mixes this escalating approach with a romance.
The story: Milo (Elyas M’Barek) meets Sunny (Palina Rojinski) in the nightlife of Berlin. A date is to put the sizzling romance between them to the test. However, the well-planned evening for two gets out of hand when Milo’s chaos friend Renzo (Frederick Lau) joins them uninvited. The three of them plunge into the “nightlife”, where half of Berlin’s underworld is soon on their heels.
Nightlife is one of the most successful German films of recent years
The party formula took hold at the German box office, where even Til Schweiger comedies no longer naturally bring in millions. Nightlife drew about 357,000 people to movie theaters on its opening weekend, reports Inside Kino . That resulted in a box-office take of 3.2 million euros during its first four days. In total, 1.3 million people saw the film until theaters closed for a long period.
The top result earned Nightlife the 2021 German Film Award for the highest-attended film of the year. In addition, Nightlife received the Austrian Romy Film Award for Best Screenplay. Despite its success, however, a sequel is not currently being planned.
