Sympathy for the Devil: Action thriller starring Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman in a psychological cat-and-mouse game
Plot and background
It’s an exciting night: labor has started, his wife is already in the hospital, now the man (Joel Kinnaman) is driving as fast as he can behind to attend the birth of his child. But the trip takes a sudden turn: an uninvited guest with red hair (Nicolas Cage) gains access to the car and forces the driver at gunpoint to drive on an odyssey without destination past the casinos of Las Vegas.
Between the two men begins a diabolical game in which no one can win and nothing is as it seems at first glance. Every attempt by the driver to defuse the situation only makes matters worse. In a diner, both get into conversation and it soon reveals the true character of both personalities.

After the two spy thrillers “The Agent” and “The Secrets We Keep”, director Yuval Adler devotes himself to an action thriller in which nothing seems as first impressions promise. For the main roles in “Symapathy for the Devil” he won Oscar winner Nicolas Cage (“Renfield”) and Joel Kinnaman (“The Suicide Squad”). The film was shot in style in Las Vegas. The screenplay was written by Luke Paradise and is his first work for a Hollywood film.
The thriller celebrated its German premiere at the Fantasy Filmfest 2023, and in the kino.de review our editor speaks of an “absolute tour de force by Nicolas Cage”. Thanks to a short theatrical window for the theatrical release on November 9, 2023, not only Cage fans have the opportunity to see the film on the big screen. Just two weeks later, the home theatrical release will hit stores on November 23, 2023. The thriller has been given an FSK 16 rating.
