It will soon be one year since the Bundeswehr and its allies ended their mission in Afghanistan in chaotic circumstances. Now a report on ProSieben takes a look at the battered country.
In August 2021, the Bundeswehr’s long-standing mission in Afghanistan came to an inglorious end. Together with its allies, our army fled from the resurgent radical Islamic Taliban. What remained behind were not only numerous so-called local forces supporting the work of the troops, but also many people who now have to fear for their lives, mainly women and girls.
Today, Monday 29 August 2022, ProSieben is changing its prime-time programme at 8:15 pm to provide information on the situation on the ground one year after the depressing events in Kabul. Then the report “ProSieben Thema: Afghanistan im Griff der Taliban” by Thilo Mischke, who was there himself to get an impression of the current conditions after the Taliban took power, will be broadcast, as DWDL reports.

The journalist Thilo Mischke, who was recently awarded the Bavarian Television Prize for his reportage on Germans on the ISIS front, spent a total of four weeks in the Hindu Kush, accompanied by a former Bundeswehr soldier who was deployed twice in Afghanistan. Together they try to document life under the dictatorship of the radical Islamists and to give us as authentic an insight as possible into the isolated country.
