It will probably be a few years before we see a new incarnation of James Bond after Daniel Craig played the agent with the licence to kill for the last time in “James Bond 007 – No Time to Die”. That much we already know – but still, the search has already begun, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson confirmed to Variety.
The search is at a very early stage, they will take their time – and after all, they have a demand that may not be to the liking of every candidate. Whoever will play James Bond in the future will really have to have stamina and be prepared for a contract with a long term…

BOND-ROLL FOR AT LEAST A DECADE
“If we cast Bond, it will be a 10-12 year commitment,” Broccoli explained. So the new star has to commit to several Bond films at once, so the role doesn’t have to be recast so quickly – but of course that’s a long time for a Hollywood actor, during which he might have to turn down other roles because “Bond” takes priority.
They are looking for a person who doesn’t just want to be in a Bond film, but wants to reinvent the whole franchise – and that takes perseverance: “It’s not just about finding an actor for a film. It’s about reinvention, asking ourselves ‘Where do we want to go with the series? What do we want to do with the character?’ And then, once we figure that out, we have to think about who is the right person to do that exact reinvention. And it’s a big commitment. It’s not just showing up for a couple of months for a movie shoot. “
Broccoli explained that she could understand that it was not something for everyone. She also commented on the fact that one of the big favourites for the role, Idris Elba, had recently stated that he wasn’t interested, “He was probably thinking, ‘do I really want to do a thing like this?’ Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough to get [Daniel Craig to do it]. “
