Film plot and background

Teen adventure by Vivian Naefe based on Cornelia Funke’s bestseller about five girls and their gang.

Sprat, Melanie, Trude, Frieda and Wilma are all between 11 and 12 years old and pretty much the fattest friends in the world. Organised in a gang called “Die Wilden Hühner” (The Wild Chickens), they engage in fierce battles with their arch-enemies, the “Pygmies”, who consist of boys of the same age. Now, however, a monstrous event requires solidarity across gender boundaries: Grandma plans to slaughter the gang mascots …

From the makers who brought us “Bibi Blocksberg” and “The Flying Classroom” comes this film adaptation of a bestselling children’s book series penned by Cornelia Funke.

Sprotte, Melanie, Trude, Frieda and, after a catchy test, Wilma are “The Wild Chickens”, the coolest gang of girls in fifth grade. Their fiercest competitors are the boys of the “Pygmy” gang and their leader Fred. There is real stress when Granny Slättberg wants to slaughter her chickens, the gang’s mascots, and only the “Pygmies” can help.
