“The Boys” connection noticed in episode 6? Now “House Of The

“House Of The Dragon” meets “The Boys”: We would have rather not expected that there are cross-connections between the two series. But in episode 6 of the “Game Of Thrones” prequel, Aegon II. Targaryen (Ty Tennant) has a real homelander moment.

In “House Of The Dragon” episode 6, the next generation enters the stage: Alicent and Rhaenyra are a bit older by now and are played by Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy, while Viserys (Paddy Considine) and co. slowly but surely say goodbye towards retirement age. And the children of Alicent and Rhaenyra are presented to us in Episode 6 as quite a wild bunch – especially Aegon II. Targaryen (Ty Tennant).

He takes the cake in his debut as a long-haired and very pubescent teenager and presents himself in a scene stark naked and masturbating at a window of the Red Fortress high above the roofs of King’s Landing / King’s Landing. A scene that says a lot about the nature of Aegon II, whom at least half of the kingdom considers to be the rightful heir to the throne (and not Rhaenryra).

And whether consciously or not, the scene also works so effectively as a character sketch of Aegon because it is strongly reminiscent of another hit series, which, however, is not set in Westeros: We’re talking about the loopy and neatly brutal superhero grotesque “The Boys”.

At the end of “The Boys” season 2, there is a moment in which Homelander (Antony Starr) – a mixture of Captain America and Superman, but without their flawless character – masturbates above the rooftops of New York. A childlike and powerless act of desperation after losing his lover and biological son, being outmanoeuvred by his adversaries and put on a leash by his superiors.

OR RATHER TOMMEN-MOMENT?

At the same time, of course, the scene also reminds us of a scene from “Game Of Thrones”: In the finale of the sixth season, King Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) jumped to his death from a window of the Red Fortress – and it might even be the very same window!

Are we seeing the same window in “Game Of Thrones” season 6 as in “House Of The Dragon”?
The latticework in front of the window openings and the decorations at the head of the columns differ slightly, but the basic shape is the same (two columns on the left, two columns on the right, an arch at the top and latticework next to it). It is possible that some renovation or reconstruction work was done in the 200 years between “House Of The Dragon” and “Game Of Thrones”…
