Avengers 6: Secret Wars could change the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever, if not completely destroy it. Now the creative mind behind the film has been revealed.
While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marks the end of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the next phase announces itself with some promising titles. We are particularly excited about the two new Avengers adventures, Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers 6: Secret Wars.
Both films hit the big screen in 2025, just a few months apart. As Deadline has learned, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has snagged a very special screenwriter for the sixth Avengers film: Michael Waldron will write the most important MCU story to date.
And the film is set to be released in 2025.
Avengers 6 comes from the multiverse mastermind behind Loki and Doctor Strange 2
Waldron, who hails from the Rick and Morty corner, is one of the most exciting names to leave his footprint in the MCU in recent years. As series creator and showrunner, he brought Loki to Disney+ before coming up with the story of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

This effectively makes him the architect of the multiverse. While Loki introduces us to the concept of multiple dimensions existing simultaneously, the Doctor Strange sequel shows what happens when they collide. Both stories feature epic, but also playful and touching moments.
- Is Kang coming back in Avengers 6? Kang is the big multiverse villain. After Loki, he appears in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty. Waldron’s involvement in Avengers 6: Secret Wars suggests he’ll be in two Avengers movies similar to Thanos.
Many screenwriters have worked in the MCU. But few have managed to leave such a lasting impression as Waldron – and in such a short time. At first glance, the multiverse seems overwhelming and complicated. In Waldron’s stories, however, there is none of that.
For Avengers 6: Secret Wars, he is a good choice. If nothing else, the film could destroy the MCU as we know it forever. Expectations should be correspondingly high. With Waldron, it is now at least ensured that a screenwriter is involved who has already skilfully rehashed two complicated Marvel stories.
