Director John Carpenter is not only the perfect choice for an autumnal movie night because of his cult slasher “Halloween”. Now four of his most popular films are released in a 4K set – the full load, sci-fi, action and, of course, horror!

He is one of the most distinctive and beloved names in genre cinema: John Carpenter. Not least thanks to his slasher milestone “Halloween”, his name frequently shines on the screens of die-hard genre fans during the horror month of October. For even apart from Michael Myers’ orgy of butchery, one can get into the mood with many Carpenter films. For example, with his legendary horror classics “The Princes of Darkness” and “The Fog” or with his sci-fi actioner “They Live”, which also has many horror elements.

And even the dystopian cult hit “The Rattlesnake” feels like it was made for long October movie nights thanks to its dirty, gruesome atmosphere. Fittingly, those four films are now being released as a new set: on 13 October, the “John Carpenter Collection”, exclusively available on Amazon, will be released with the four Carpenter classics in 4K!

Important: All four films are included in the set in unabridged form. However, you will have to do without most of the bonus material in the “John Carpenter Collection” – only “The Rattlesnake” comes with extras, namely in the form of four audio commentaries!

“JOHN CARPENTER COLLECTION”: WHAT TO EXPECT

In “The Princes of Darkness”, a rapid succession of horrific natural disasters occur, stoking increasing fears that Satan’s return is imminent. So a priest (Donald Pleasence) must try to banish the lord of darkness who resides in a glass shrine in a crumbling church.

In “They Live”, on the other hand, unemployed John Nada (Roddy Piper) stumbles across a box of sunglasses that ironically illuminate his vision – in a proverbial way: When he puts on one of these glasses, he realises that Earth is controlled by aliens. At first he hopes to be able to fight back. But the aliens are everywhere and, with a gigantic conspiracy, ensure that the population is driven to consume and become willing…

In “The Fog”, the 100th anniversary celebration of the city of Antonio Bay is screwed up by outlandish events and a dense, eerie fog. Apparently this is connected to a fateful moment from the town’s history: Once upon a time, Captain Blake (Rob Bottin) wanted to establish a leper colony there. But then he was deliberately sent misleading lighthouse signals so that the ship and its entire crew sank in the floods of the sea. Will the late, supernatural revenge now take place?

In the action-packed sci-fi thriller “The Rattlesnake” we again see a Manhattan that has been converted into a gigantic high-security prison. When Air Force One crashes there, the US president and the highly explosive cargo urgently need to be protected. So the police chief (Lee Van Cleef) gives inmate Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) the job of protecting the president from the local psychopaths. In exchange, Snake beckons his release from prison…
