Every time you think you’ve seen and experienced everything in the “Game Of Thrones” world, something new comes along: In episode 9, we learn how Queen Alicent rewards the limping Larys Strong for telling her secrets…
Warning, spoilers for episode 9 of Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon. For several episodes now, Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) has been watching Queen Alicent in a rather penetrating manner. The Queen has also been called on it several times, including at the funeral of Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell). So it was clear that Larys admires the Queen, probably also has a sexual obsession for her – and now we also know what nature it is.
Larys Strong has a foot fetish. And for informing Alicent (Olivia Cooke) about secret goings-on in King’s Landing and “solving” her problems for her (in episode 9, that’s: killing the spy known as White Worm, Mysaria), the Queen pays him by satisfying his fetish: Alicent lets Larys look at her bare feet while he satisfies himself in the process.
THAT’S WHY LARYS HAS A FOOT FETISC
That Larys is obsessed with feet seems to be rooted in the deformity of his own feet, at least that’s what the cut in episode 9, “The Green Council”, suggests. When Larys enters the Queen’s chambers with a limp, the camera rests meaningfully on his club foot for several seconds. He then hints at knowing a secret and waits until Alicent sighs and sits down to take off her shoes, and later her stockings.
That Larys has a foot fetish is, of course, completely his own business and in itself not a bad thing – it’s just that he uses his knowledge of secrets as leverage to extort sexual favours from Alicent. As a servant of the Crown, currently in the capacity of Lord Confessor (a kind of chief torturer) and later as Master of Whisperers, his services should not really be for sale. But Larys set out from the beginning to blackmail the Queen: For when Larys has his father and brother killed at Harrenhal, and convinces Alicent that she commissioned it, he makes it clear to the Queen that he has her in the palm of his hand – and now we know what he wants from her, too.
The whole thing is, of course, a feast for the social media: On Twitter, a great many viewers commented on this scene and wondered, on the one hand, about Larys’ fetish and, on the other hand, why “House Of The Dragon” would force them to watch something like this. Many expressed disgust at the scene.

In the original “Fire and Ice” by George R.R. Martin, Larys Strong probably doesn’t have this fetish. Whether we will see Alicent doing a foot striptease in further episodes remains to be seen – but probably not in episode 10, because the mother of the new king Aegon II will most likely not appear in the season finale. Instead, there will be a reunion with Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) when episode 10 of “House Of The Dragon” is released on Sky and WOW (formerly Sky Ticket) on 24 October 2022.
