Fire of Love: Spectacular documentary about the volcanologist couple Katia and Maurice Krafft

Film plot and background

The geoscientists Katia and Maurice Krafft were united by a very special passion: their great interest in volcanoes. With many fascinating reports from their work, they made the forces of nature tangible and at the same time warned against them. The couple eventually fell victim to just such a force of nature in a tragic way. Katja and Maurice Krafft died in 1991 when the Japanese volcano Unzen erupted. But they left behind huge amounts of film footage from their expeditions and thus unique shots of fire-breathing volcanoes and glowing lava flows. The official trailer shows impressive nature shots:

Documentary director Sara Dosa (“The Seer and the Unseen”) created a loving tribute to the two volcanologists and their life’s work from the spectacular archive footage left behind by the Krafft couple. The documentary film in 4:3 format is accompanied by a commentary by artist Miranda July and is a touching reminder of the two scientists’ shared passion.

“Fire of Love” will be shown in German cinemas from 27 October 2022.
