The Shang Chi director is developing a Wonder Man series for Disney+. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has now been cast as the star, who has also starred in the DC Universe and Watchmen series.
The Marvel series universe on Disney+ continues to grow. A while back, it was reported that Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was developing a Wonder Man series for the streaming service, with Ben Kingsley returning as an MCU impostor. Now it’s also been revealed who will play the title role in the new Marvel series on Disney+.

Superhero maven Yahya Abdul-Mateen II becomes Wonder Man for Marvel
According to Variety Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast for the lead role in Marvel’s Wonder Man series. The actor already knows his way around the superhero genre. In the DC blockbuster Aquaman, he played the role of the villain Black Manta, who is also in the sequel Aquaman: Lost Kingdom. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also starred as Doctor Manhattan in Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen series. He won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in 2020 for the role.
In Marvel Comics, Wonder Man has appeared under his real name Simon Williams. In the original, he initially joined the evil Baron Zemo to trap the Avengers. Eventually, however, he switched sides and became part of the superhero team.
Wonder Man’s many superpowers include superhuman strength, speed, the ability to fly and immortality.
