Can this really be true? Many DC fans are convinced that “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa will take on the role of the alien bounty hunter Lobo. The reason for this is a hint from new DC boss James Gunn – and from Momoa himself.
It looks like someone is getting down to business: Since the end of October 2022, James Gunn (“Guardians Of The Galaxy”, “The Suicide Squad”) has been the head of the newly founded DC Studios together with producer Peter Safran. And as one of his first acts in office, he not only promised to make the DCU the “greatest story ever told”, but apparently also directly announced a possible new project: “Lobo”.
Whereby, strictly speaking, the new project is not really true and neither is the announcement: rumours and reports about a film about the permanently cursing, chain-smoking alien bounty hunter and motorcyclist have been around for years – the last time a “Lobo” film boiled up was in 2018. At the time, “Transformers” director Michael Bay was supposed to take on the project, but nothing came of it.
And even if the “Lobo” excitement in the social media is currently big again, James Gunn has of course strictly speaking not officially announced anything yet. He has only created an account on the Twitter alternative Mastodon and shared a picture of Lobo there as his first post (with the caption “Nice to be here”). You can see the picture here on Mastodon
IS LOBO JASON MOMOA’S DREAM ROLE?
But there are other developments fuelling the “Lobo” rumours – and here we finally come to Jason Momoa: for he has already gone on record, in the wake of James Gunn’s promotion to DC boss, that under Gunn and Saffron’s watch one of his dreams will come true.
Momoa was now asked by Comicbook.com whether this statement and Gunn’s possible Lobo teaser were connected. Momoa’s response, which comes with a big wink, “Well, everybody knows I’m a comic book fan. The comic series that I’ve collected the most, that I have every issue of…. you can find out for yourself which one it is. “
Jason Momoa’s reaction to @JamesGunn‘s Lobo post is veeeeeery interesting. 👀https://t.co/yRNcEl18pP pic.twitter.com/X6wprjv8qj

So this is another possible hint, especially since Momoa has expressed a few times in the past that he would like to play Lobo or could well imagine playing that role. Not to mention that many fans also seem to be excited about Momoa as an intergalactic bounty hunter.
Nevertheless, the whole thing should be treated with great caution at the moment, if only because Momoa is already part of the DC universe as Aquaman and will play the role of Arthur Curry again at least in the upcoming “Aquaman 2”. Should a “Lobo” film really be coming and should Momoa take on the role, this will certainly be announced in due course.
