The Blade film with Mahershala Ali was last postponed because, among other things, the script was said to be too bad. Now the project is picking up again with a new director and screenwriter on board.
One of the upcoming MCU films for Phase 5 was a Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali. The character was briefly teased in an end credits scene of Eternals, where the star’s voice could be heard off-screen. However, the planned reboot of the MCU’s most brutal hero has recently been thrown into disarray.
In October it was announced that the Blade production was stopped for the time being after the intended director, director Bassam Tariq, dropped out and the script was said to be too short and half-baked. But now there is good news about the Marvel project again.
Here’s another trailer for the first Blade movie with Wesley Snipes:
Marvel’s Blade reboot has found new director
As Deadline reports, Yann Demange has been signed on as Marvel’s new Blade director. The Brit directed films such as the intense action thriller 71 – Behind Enemy Lines revolving around the Northern Ireland conflict and served as a producer as well as director on the HBO series Lovecraft Country.
In addition, Michael Starrbury was hired as the new screenwriter for Marvel’s Blade movie. He worked on the Netflix series When They See Us, among others. The new team is supposed to keep the dark Blade tone and deliver an unusually hard MCU film.
So far, nothing has changed about the theatrical release. Filming on Blade with Mahershala Ali is set to begin in early 2023 and the German release has been set for 4 September 2024.
