Plot and background
Little Eia (Paula Rits) had been looking forward to spending Christmas with her busy parents, but at the last moment it falls through. While the two have to work, the ten-year-old is to be sent to the farm of an acquaintance.
Instead of being sad on the spot, little Eia cannot help but be amazed: the farm is surrounded by a snow-covered forest, in which numerous animals and owls can be seen. She quickly makes friends with other children. A rapacious steward named Ravio (Juhan Ulfsak) spoils the wintry celebration. He plans to cut down the entire forest. Together with the children on the farm and the landowner, Eia wants to take action against this. What is to become of the animals and the woods? Sooner or later she even stumbles upon a family secret.
“Christmas in the Magic Owl Forest” – background, cast, cinema release
From Estonia comes the nature-loving Christmas film “Christmas in the Magic Owl Forest”. Unfortunately, the planned theatrical release on 19 November 2020 cannot be kept due to closed cinemas, the new theatrical release is on 2 December 2021. The FSK released the family film from 0 years.
Already in the run-up, the enchanting winter film by director Anu Aun (“The Polar Boy”) turns out to be a cinema adventure for the whole family. At the 24th International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences in Chemnitz, “Christmas in the Magic Owl Forest” received three prizes, including one for the young Paula Ritts as best child actress.
With themes such as nature conservation and sustainability, the film not only takes a closer look at the great magic of the forest, but also focuses on the courage, friendship and commitment of the characters. The Christmas film received the rating “valuable” from the German Film and Media Rating (FBW).
