Where is Star Trek 4? Six years after the last film in the sci-fi series, at least we know why Marvel star Chris Hemsworth dropped the project.
Star Trek is one of the most popular science fiction franchises ever, but it last took place on television. Since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, we have waited in vain for a new feature film. However, there was no shortage of ideas. Quentin Tarantino wanted to write a script and a time-travelling Chris Hemsworth was supposed to appear in another project. The Thor actor recently opened up about why his return to the Star Trek universe came to nothing.
Why didn’t Star Trek 4 with Chris Hemsworth become a reality?
In case you missed it, before the Australian gained international fame in Thor, Hemsworth played James T. Kirk’s (Chris Pine) father, who died at an early age, in Star Trek. In 2016, producer J.J. Abrams announced that Hemsworth would return as George Kirk in Star Trek 4, via time travel. Just two years later, the project was in crisis, at the time allegedly due to salary negotiations between Hemsworth and Pine.

On the Happy Sad Confused Podcast (via TrekMovie ), Chris Hemsworth recently explained that there were several reasons why he ultimately turned down Star Trek 4. Here’s what he told host Josh Horowitz:
“It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be or what it could have been. I thought we’d approach it like, ‘OK, cool, let’s work on it and move on’. And then I think everyone was busy with other things. […] There were talks about doing a film with Chris Pine and myself. The script was drafted and then it all fell apart. “
It sounds like the plans for Star Trek 4 were rudimentary or unconvincing. Indeed, the actor had deeper concerns about the story, specifically about the logic of the return of the dead George Kirk:
“It would have been strange to see the father again in the flashback and think, ‘Why is he so much older than when he died? “
Soon in 2019, Chris Hemsworth stated in an interview:
“I didn’t feel like we had a reason to go back there until now. I didn’t want to be disappointed in what I would contribute. “
