Dwayne Johnson brought back Henry Cavill as Superman for Black Adam, but the star’s DC future is just faltering. That also has to do with The Rock’s behaviour.
With Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson has given fans the biggest DC return in the last 10 years. The return of Henry Cavill as Superman is probably one of the moments that will remain from the blockbuster in the future. For the studio, Black Adam is slowly but surely turning into a disappointment financially.
But much more important for DC fans now is the future surrounding Cavill’s Superman. The star himself recently gave up his leading role in Netflix’s The Witcher and announced new Superman appearances. There have also been reports of work on Man of Steel 2. But now the big Superman comeback is in ruins again for now, in part because of Dwayne Johnson.

Dwayne Johnson’s ego threatens DC future of Henry Cavill’s Superman
Former DC movie head Walter Hamada had personally opposed a Superman appearance in Black Adam because he wanted to leave Zack Snyder’s universe behind for good. Therefore, The Rock acted behind his back and threaded Cavill’s appearance with the help of the approval of current Warner Bros. Pictures execs.
Even after the film’s release, the star didn’t stay quiet and continued to hand out announcements to DC itself. He said that the studio’s failure to bring Cavill back was inexplicable and unforgivable to him. He would not take no for an answer on his Superman comeback plan, which says as much about The Rock’s ego as it does about fulfilling the dreams of DC fans.
Then recently, updated insider information about James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming big plan leaked out. Both are deciding on the future of the superhero universe as the new DC film bosses and are already roughly cleaning up the mess. In addition to the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3, Man of Steel 2 with Cavill is also said to be on hold again.
The Hollywood Reporter report also briefly mentions that Johnson’s ego-tour for Cavill’s Black Adam appearance is said to have upset new management. Add to that the fact that the DC blockbuster isn’t exactly crying out for a sequel due to its disappointing financial results and Johnson’s DC voting rights could plummet directly.
