The new year also begins with some treats on Disney Plus, especially for “Star Wars” and Marvel fans. But even apart from that, the streaming service has some potential film and series highlights in store for January.
The year 2022 is slowly coming to an end, but of course the streaming services are already planning ahead for 2023. After Netflix just presented its preview of new film and series titles for January, Disney+ is now following suit. There are no big hits here at the beginning of the year, but there are still some exciting new additions to the platform…
MORE “STAR WARS” AND MARVEL …
Naturally, Disney is once again firing up two of its biggest brands on its in-house streaming service in January 2023: “Star Wars” and Marvel. Fans of the acclaimed animated series division of the galaxy far, far away, can look forward to the second season of the “Clone Wars” spin-off “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” on 4 January, in which the renegade clone troop 99 continues to take on the Empire after the events of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”.
Besides this, Disney+ continues to be diligent in expanding the Marvel line-up with blockbusters from the comic book company that predate the MCU. After the “Fantastic Four” and “X-Men” films as well as Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, “Daredevil” with Ben Affleck as the blind lawyer/crime fighter will now make the leap to Disney+ on 13 January (who, however, has a rather dubious reputation not only since the later great Daredevil incarnation by Charlie Cox).
.. AND MUCH MORE STREAMING NEWS
Meanwhile, things also get heroic in the new animated series “Koala Man”, in which a normal guy in a koala mask tries to keep law and order in his small town, as well as in the young-adult series “Extraordinary”, which takes us into a world in which everyone over the age of 18 develops a superpower – with the exception of main character Jen (Máiréad Tyers).
Less heroic, but with an MCU hero in the leading role, is the series “Welcome To Chippendales” on 11 January. In it, Eternals member Kumail Nanjiani builds up the famous titular male strip empire in the 1980s. There will also be a top-class series update on 18 January with the fourth and final season of the award-winning dramedy “Atlanta” by and starring Donald Glover.
Meanwhile, younger Disney+ users can have fun with “Maya the Bee 3 – The Secret Kingdom”, which was only in cinemas this year, from 13 January. And the now obligatory horror dose of the month comes on 27 January in the form of the worthwhile German found-footage thriller “Heilstätten”.
We have listed all these and the rest of the new additions to Disney+ for the coming month in the following overview.
